Backgrounds

I finally found a way to create some very nice backgrounds or patterns. You only need PSP7 for this, so everyone should be able to cope with this lesson.

I intentionally provide very few screenshots showing the colors I used. I want you to come up with your own combinations. Tastes vary greatly. You can stay in the same color family or mix different colors in the same shade. You can use a different style texture for this and even add more layers. For more layers, rotate every other layer.

  1. Open a new 350x350 transparent image 16.7 million colors.

  2. Flood fill you are not seeing the Jasc PSP7 Flood tool icon the layer with white. Easier on your eyes at the end.

  3. Add new layer Light. Choose Parchment from the foreground texture box. Flood fill you are not seeing the Jasc PSP7 Flood tool icon with a pastel color.
    you are not seeing the labelled styles and colors boxes

  4. Go to Effects->3D->Texture and choose Scuplture. Use the following settings: Gold or gray, 25
    17, 7, 0, 67
    your light color or another one, 3, 30, 56
    you are not seeing the Jasc Sculpture settings options

  5. Add new layer Medium. Choose a medium color for your foreground and fill you are not seeing the Jasc PSP7 Flood tool icon . Now, go to Image->Rotate and choose 90 degrees. Click ok.

  6. If you like the looks of the background, merge visible those 3 layers. Otherwise redo the layer colors until you like the effect. That is the main reason I said do each color on its own layer, aside from rotating one layer.

  7. Go to Effects->Artistic->Brushstrokes and use the following settings: 10, 25, 258, 4, 50
    20, 102, Black
    you are not seeing the Brush strokes effect window

  8. You now have a lovely background or pattern. You will need to make it seamless to tile properly, but this is where the lesson ends.
